They are the basis pretty much of the other breeds.
The have rounded noses with ears that stick out slightly from the sides of their head and their fur lies straight and close to their body.
Their features provide low maintenance when it comes to grooming.
This breed of guinea pig was commonly known as the English Guinea pig before the American Cavy Breeders Association started referring to them as American Guineas.
The American guinea pig has a temperate personality that goes well when it comes to being held and handled by children.
They are sweet pets and tend to get along well with other guinea pigs as well as other pets.
