ABYSSINIAN

The Abyssinian Guinea Pig.

This breed of guinea pig is one of the oldest of its species.

It is known for its 6-8 rosettes in their coats.

Rosettes are little patches of hair that grow out in a circular shape from the center point.

Each guinea pig differs but most have one on each hip, four down the back, and one on each shoulder.

The Abyssinian guinea pig has a medium length body with a coarse dense coat.

There is one gene that comes from Abyssinian guinea pig that if bred with another Abyssinian the gene can be highly lethal.

This breed is fairly common compared to other breeds of guinea pigs and is well-known in pet shows around the country.
